Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern access to and use of coords.zone (the "Service"), operated by Markus Nordin as an individual (sole trader) based in Sweden ("we", "us", "our"). By accessing the API, dashboard, or website, you ("you", "Customer") agree to these Terms. If you're using the Service on behalf of an organization, you're confirming you have authority to bind that organization to these Terms.

1. The Service

coords.zone is an HTTP API that returns plant hardiness zone classifications, related climate data, and country metadata for a given GPS coordinate. The Service is provided on a best-effort basis; we don't guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or availability of any response.

2. Accounts and API keys

• You must provide a valid email address to register an account.
• API keys are issued to identify and meter your usage. You're responsible for keeping your keys confidential and for all activity that occurs under them. You can revoke and reissue keys yourself from the dashboard at any time.
• You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of majority in your jurisdiction, to register an account.

3. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• Circumvent, or attempt to circumvent, rate limits, quotas, or authentication;
• Use the Service to build a directly competing bulk hardiness-zone or climate dataset product;
• Use the Service for any unlawful purpose, or in a way that infringes others' rights;
• Interfere with or disrupt the integrity or performance of the Service or its underlying infrastructure;
• Reverse engineer the Service beyond what's permitted by applicable law.

We may suspend or revoke API keys that violate this section, with or without notice, particularly where necessary to protect the Service for other users.

4. Fees and billing

• Free tier — unauthenticated requests and free-tier API keys are limited to 1,000 requests per calendar month at no cost, no payment method required.
• Paid plan — subscribing removes the monthly cap. The first 1,000 requests each calendar month are included; usage beyond that is billed at the metered rate published on our docs page at the time of use.
• Payment is processed by Stripe. By subscribing, you authorize us to charge your payment method on file for metered usage each billing period.
• Billing periods run on the calendar month. New subscriptions are billed for their partial first month on the following month-boundary invoice.
• You can cancel anytime from the dashboard. Cancellation takes effect immediately, and any metered usage not yet invoiced is invoiced immediately upon cancellation rather than carried to a future invoice.
• Fees are non-refundable once invoiced, except where required by applicable law.
• You're responsible for any taxes associated with your use of the paid plan, other than taxes on our income.

5. Data accuracy disclaimer

Zone and climate classifications are derived from modeled climate datasets and approximations of national zone systems, not official government publications (except where noted in our documentation). They're intended as a general guide and should not be the sole basis for commercial agricultural, planting, or safety-critical decisions. Verify against local, authoritative sources before relying on this data for anything consequential.

6. Intellectual property

We retain all rights, title, and interest in the Service, including the underlying software and dataset. Subject to these Terms and any applicable fees, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to query the API and use the returned data within your own products and services.

7. Disclaimer of warranties

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement, to the maximum extent permitted by applicable law.

8. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits or revenue, arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim arising out of these Terms or the Service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim, or $10 if you're on the free tier. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.

9. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from any claims, damages, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your misuse of the Service or violation of these Terms.

10. Termination

You may stop using the Service at any time. To delete your account, email [email protected]. We will delete your account data upon request, except for financial and billing records, which we retain for seven years from the end of the relevant fiscal year as required under Swedish accounting law (Bokföringslagen), consistent with GDPR's legal-obligation basis for retention. We may suspend or terminate your access for breach of these Terms, non-payment, or abuse of the Service, and will make reasonable efforts to notify you before doing so except where immediate action is necessary to protect the Service or other users.

11. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will update the "Last updated" date above; continued use of the Service after a change constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

12. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Sweden, without regard to its conflict-of-law principles. Any dispute arising from these Terms or the Service is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Sweden, except where mandatory consumer protection law in your country of residence provides otherwise.
